What is the Meaning of "Too Fat"?

Now keep in mind that the body needs some amount of fat to run at optimum levels each day. Scientist will tell you that there are good fats and there are bad fats. You therefore have to consume the good fats and stay away from the bad ones. Since a lot of what people are when they are overweight and obese is fat, it stands to reasons that you must what your weight.

If your Body Mass Index is somewhere between 18 and 25 you are considered healthy and are seen as having just about the right amount of fat. Should your Body Mass Index rise above 25 you are deemed overweight which means that you have excess body fat. Excess body fat often leads to health risks such as high blood pressure, heart attacks, and diabetes.

Another way to determine whether you are overweight or have too much fat is to measure the circumference of your waist. A woman whose waist is over 35 inches signifies problems which can include affecting your internal organs and hypertension. This is so because when most people store fat they do so mainly around the waist. For men a waist size of 40 inches and over signals a problem. The manner of weight distribution throughout your body is primarily genetic in nature so we have no choice. Yet when you have a body that will store extra weight mainly in your torso area the fat that gets stored can cause heightened blood sugar. There will also be increased cholesterol levels which will likely cause kidney and cardiovascular problems.

You may have a BMI that is close to 25 yet have a waist size that is too big which means that you have excess fat and will need to lose weight. There are also many persons who are overweight and are okay with this and have not had any problems with the excess fat. There is nothing wrong with being fat and fit as some people are, but there are not many of them.

So to know how much fat we need requires some calculations which would be just an estimate. Your doctor can help you here as there are a number of tests that can be deducted to determine your health risk among other things.

There is such a thing as too much fat and finding out what is right for you must be a priority if good health is what you seek.
