Volume 11, Issue 4 April, 2000 NEXT CLUB
MEETING: Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at HeliPort Hobbies, 7:30 p.m. From the PresidentHello again! The weather is changing for the better. It has been really great flying weather lately in temperature and wind. At least it will be getting warmer and with the time change flying later in the evening. Well with another month passing and another monthly meeting done OH! And no new crashes from me, not much has changed. The dates for the fun fly had to be changed again, and the updated roster should be out soon. This last meeting went very well with the major area of focus was with the fun fly. Most of the issues for the fun fly have been taken care of with one change- it will be happening a couple of days later. The dates had to be moved back to August 19th and 20th, and it has been changed to a class B status because of a conflict with other events sanctioned by the A.M.A in the area. The months of July and August are booked up already for contests. The changing to a Class B sanctioning puts us in limits of a 50 mile radius of other events. August 19th,and 20th are the same dates Colorado Springs has a pattern meet so it should not conflict with our event. If you have any questions contact Vince Gutschalk.. I want to give special thanks to Vince and everyone who is helping him in setting up this fun fly event. I am hoping the updated roster will be out for April’s meeting and then everyone can get a copy. Starting with the month of May the meetings will be held at the field again. So this will include May, June, July and August meetings to be held at the field and the same times as scheduled now. Well that's about it from here and I will see you at the field! Scott
From the Board of DirectorsBoard Meeting NotesMarch
22, 2000 Scott
picked up the new member badges. Some
of the ‘Pilot’ badges had font that is much larger than the others.
Scott asked if this was OK. The
Board approved the badges as they are. A
member will get the ‘Pilot’ badge when he/she solos. The May through August club meetings will be at the field. The field will be closed during the meeting, but bring your plane and fly before the meeting gets started. Warren
mentioned that the officers need to inform Buzz of when we’re having a club
meeting at his shop. He does need
to prepare. Vince
had some questions for the board regarding the fall contest.
It will be known as the Hi Plains Fly-In.
The Lamar Steen name has been dropped.
Vince first asked what type of AMA sanctioned event are we going to
make the fly-in. Options are a Class A fly-in or a Class AA fly-in.
The differences center around what other sanctioned events can be in
the same area at the same time and what events must be held to get that class
of certification. The board
recommended Class AA. The
membership will need to vote however. Vince’s other question revolved around
the date. Apparently, Love Air is
having a fly-in on August 19th and 20th.
Since theirs has a much larger reputation and turnout, the board felt
it would be bad to try and compete with it.
The board decided to make ours the 12th and 13th
of August to not compete with Love Air. The
fly-in will be $20 for pilots ($10 for non-pilots).
This will include a steak dinner on Saturday evening.
The dinner should cost the club about $5-6 dollars per person.
We will bring 5 gas grills out to the field and let each person cook
their own steak. Dan
wanted to point out that the newsletter will no longer be emailed to people.
It will be available on the MAS website: (http://www.americannutrition.com/mas). Notice
of the new newsletter will be mailed to members with email addresses. We
need porta potties, especially for the fly-in.
The board had already approved funding to buy some used ones.
A used one usually goes for about $50-100.
Dave Hogan is taking care of getting the current ones emptied. The
board approved the purchase of 2 bull horns for use at club events. MAS Club Meeting NotesMarch
22, 2000 Ron
told the membership of the current state of the club finances.
They are: Savings: $2847Regular: $1005Runway: $3250Scott mentioned that there are a lot of new members. This is good for the club and for the hobby in general. New members are all supposed to have the club by-laws, constitution, and name badge. If you’re a new member and don’t have these things, contact Scott or look at the field. Packets will be placed there. The club roster will be placed on the web site. If you don’t want your phone number or address listed, let Dan Listul know. He will remove them. Dan also mentioned that the newsletter will no longer be emailed. It will be available on the web site. Email notification will be sent to members with email. Most of the meeting dealt with Vince going over the questions on the Fall fly-in. See the Board meeting notes for the questions. The Class A fly-in is unrestricted to the AMA and it must contain at least 1 event from the rulebook. The Class AA fly-in is also unrestricted, but you must have at 2 events from the rulebook and give out 4 awards in two places in each event. The Class AA sanctioning means that our event would be the only sanctioned event in the state on those days. The board had recommended the AA sanctioning. The membership agreed by vote. Vince
will research whether or not we need to provide some sort of breakfast.
We are providing dinner on Saturday night (see board meeting notes).
The event committee will determine which 2 official AMA events will be
held. Warren has purchased the Magnum 1.8 that will be raffled at the Fly-in. The engine was on display during the meeting. The membership brought up the question of purchasing a generator. Nobody wanted to make a decision right now, so it was tabled until next month. Roger brought up that the club should consider having a kid’s day at the field. Members would donate plans and buddy-boxes to give local area kids a chance at flying. Roger will investigate a date for this. Stay tuned. From the EditorThis
will be the last newsletter that I build and send to you fine folks.
My schedule just doesn’t allow me to spend the kind of time this
publication deserves. Tom Glaess
has graciously agreed to take over the publication of this newsletter.
Let me hear a great big round of applause for Tom.
<APPLAUSE, “Hooray”, “3
Cheers for Tom!”> I
had originally planned to print the current club roster in this newsletter,
but I didn’t do it. So far
I’ve only heard from 3 people (one of them is ME) who doesn’t want his
name published on the World Wide Web. Something
tells me that there are probably more members than that who don’t want their
information available world-wide….Please contact Tom Glaess if you wish your
name, address, phone number, etc kept off the internet. Dan Miscellaneous and ClassifiedCLUB OFFICERS
