Volume 11, Issue 4 May, 2000 NEXT CLUB
MEETING: Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at MAS Field, 7:30 p.m. From the PresidentHello again fellow members, Time sure goes by quick any and it's getting harder to find time to write these monthly columns, so if it sounds a little off the wall with my writing just blame it on my style of flying, all over the place and then crash! April's meeting was shorter than normal but the areas of issue were covered well. First of all May's meeting is AT THE FIELD (same times). The Fun fly is shaping up very well. The contest committee has done a great job in getting the fun fly setup. The events are set and the little details are getting solved everyday. Like I've said before if you can help or need information contact Vince Gutschalk. The portapotties have yet to be solved. Earl Keffer checked on purchasing two used ones ( empty of course), but the place he checked no longer sells used ones. If anyone has any sources to purchase two of these cheap or rent them cheap please help. On any advertising areas for both the swap meet and the fun fly, if anyone has any contacts that can help on putting in ads in the newspapers or the community papers, let me know ASAP so we can try to run some ads for these events. Just another reminder that the next 4 monthly meetings will be at the field, so show up early and get in some flights. At the meeting it was noted that if anyone has a source for some type gravel or anything that can be put on the entrance road to help stop the washouts, let me know. Anyone using the field please be careful around the storage shed and buildings because we have been greeted by a couple 5 foot snakes. They are not poisonous but can bite and could make you feel really bad for a while. I will try to catch them and move them to an area a long ways from the field and hopefully they don't come back. I moved one Saturday at the field cleaning day and Earl Keffer encountered two in the shed when he was out mowing. The field cleaning was an easy one since The Hogans and Earl, the ones that I know of, were at the field earlier that week and did most of the cleaning. Saturday we mainly cleared off more tumbleweeds and some other minor stuff. Thanks to everyone that helped. The last thing that I have is to please remember to turn the combination lock numbers when the gate is opened. The next last thing I have is we have been getting more new flyers joining our club and I have heard nothing but great praise about our facility and members from these new members. I want to say thanks to everyone in doing what you do best, being yourselves. Being open, honest, polite and showing the love of our sport to everyone that visits our site is why MAS is the place be. THANKS AND WELCOME ALL NEW MEMBERS. I will get an updated roster soon! FLY FUN FLY SAFE Scott Hubbard
To all
members who get their newsletters via US Mail, I wish to apologize for the
foul-up I created with the April issue. It
seems that when I
had my word processor query my database to print the mailing labels, I
neglected to include the street address.
The end result is that most of the newsletters came back to me as
undeliverable. Indeed, some even came back twice. I hope this caused no hardship for anyone who might have
missed the April meeting. It has
been my pleasure to serve as your newsletter editor for the past months.
This was actually my second stint in this position, but my travel
schedule just doesn't allow me to devote the amount of time I feel is required
to put out a quality publication. Therefore,
Tom Glaess has graciously accepted the job as editor of Hangar Talk.
Please give him your complete support, and I know he will do a fine
job. Thank
you, Dan

From the Board of DirectorsBoard Meeting NotesApril 26, 2000 This
was a short meeting. There just isn’t that much going on. The sanction is on the way to the AMA. Everything is on track except for the porta-potties. Apparently the company that used to sell used ones has been bought and the new company no longer sells them. Earl is looking at alternatives. Lee brought in the bill from Adams Co. for the Swap meet. Ron took care of it. Warren mentioned that he has received one check already for the Swap Meet. He asked the board if we should go ahead and cash it or wait until the time of the Meet. The board decided to hold onto the check. Scott asked if we should take out ads in the local papers. Warren thought it would be a good idea, so Scott will check prices. The next four meetings (May through August) will be held at the flying site. Bring your plane and get some stick time before the meeting starts. It has been noticed that people are not changing the lock combo when they open it in the morning. After opening the lock at the field, spin the cylinders so nobody can just walk up and see the combination. The farmer who owns the fields next to ours asked if he could have the combination so he can retrieve his cows when they get through. The board decided that this was ok. MAS Club Meeting NotesApril 26, 2000 Ron told the membership of the current state of the club finances. They are: Savings:
$2850
Regular:
$1131
Runway:
$3250
Vince
went over the status of the fun-fly. The requested bull horns will not be
needed after all. People will use walkie-talkies (which we already have).
Vince asked for club members with computers and color printers if they could
run off some copies of the flyer. Kinkos is asking $1 a piece for color
copies, which is just too much money. If you have a color printer, contact
Vince and print some up for him. Warren
asked that members sign-up for the Swap Meet. All other news was covered in the board meeting notes. Needless to say, the club meeting was short this month. Radio InterferenceDan
found this article on radio interference on the Internet. If enough people
would like to read it who don’t have Internet access, let me know and I’ll
put it in next month’s newsletter. It’s a bit long, so let me know if I
should put it here.
