Phenibut (Phenybut, Fenibut) is a neuropsychotropic drug derived from the
neurotransmitter GABA that has the capability to pass the blood brain barrier.
Now, GABA is the neurotransmitter that is responsible for nerve signal
transmission efficiency. Sounds pretty scary right? Not entirely so. Phenibut is
used by bodybuilders to reduce fatigue and improve neurological functions.
Phenibut has the longest history of use in Russia, where it has been and is
still used medically to treat stress, relieve tension, improve sleep, and as a
potentiate for other medications. (Phenibut is known to amplify the effects of
some drugs.) Russian psychiatrists use Phenibut to treat such ailments as
depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and stuttering. This drug’s
usefulness in the treatment of these conditions stems from its tendency to
elevate mood, relieve anxiety, enhance thinking, and induce sleep and
relaxation. It is often compared to Diazepam. Some of Phenibut’s other effects
include evidence of cardio protection, help with gastric lesions, and reduction
in mental decline.
