Chrysin, commonly found in the plant Passiflora coerulea, part of the passion
flower family. Chrysin has demonstrated an ability to maximize testosterone
concentrations by inhibiting aromatase activity. Aromatase is the enzyme
responsible for the conversion of androstenedione and testosterone into esterone
and estradiol respectively. Testosterone, not estrogen is responsible for
increases in lean body mass and strength.
Chrysin can also help block the body from converting testosterone into
estrogen. Since most bodybuilders and many athletes are interested in elevating
their testosterone levels with supplementation, Chrysin is an ideal supplement
to take in conjunction with other testosterone boosters in order to prevent
feminizing side effects.
Reduction of estrogen has many other healthy effects on the body as well.
Aromatase-inhibiting drugs are used to treat Women with estrogen-dependant
breast cancers. The rationale for this therapy is that estrogen is produced by
fat cells via a process known as aromatization. Aging men often have excess
aromatase enzyme activity, and the result is that too much of their testosterone
is "aromatized" into estrogen.
