Phosphatidylserine (PS) is extracted from soy,
and it is 100% natural. PS is a naturally occurring phospholipid compound, which
has been shown to improve the memory and cognition in the healthy as well as in
the mentally deteriorated elderly.
Along with phosphatidylcholine (PC),
which make up the cell membranes of many brain cells, phosphatidyl serine (PS)
determines the minerals, nutrients, and drugs that go in and out of the cell.
PS and PC also influence communication between the brain cells.
Phosphatidylserine can specifically:
_ Increase ability to handle stress.
_ Slow brain function decline in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
_ Combat depression.
_ Stimulate immune function.
_ Prevent muscle breakdown.
_ Maintain brain function (I.E. - memory, learning, concentration, word recall
and mood.
Some research shows that when PS levels naturally decrease with increasing
age, so too does the ability to learn, remember, and stay alert. Depression may
also develop as a result of age-related phosphatidylserine insufficiency. PS
supplements have been proposed as a partial solution to such developments.
Rapidly absorbed into the brain, these supplements may compensate for low PS
levels and thus prevent or even reverse age-related declines in brain function.
PS actually appears in numerous foods, including rice and green leafy
vegetables, but only in small amounts. Commercially prepared supplements offer a
concentrated source.
