Vitamins and Minerals are both essential elements to every human being's diet. Without them our bodies would simply stop functioning. There are various conditions related to vitamin deficiencies. Scurvy is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C. Rickets (a condition affecting the development of bone) is attributed to a Vitamin D deficiency.
Vitamins are substances your body needs to grow and develop naturally. Vitamins have many interesting uses. Vitamin D helps build strong bones. Vitamin A (found in carrots) aids in night vision. Vitamin E helps form red blood cells. Vitamin C helps ward off the common cold, and fights infections. The various B vitamins aid the body in producing protein and energy.
The human body requires 13 different vitamins: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, and the B-Vitamins (biotin, folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, vitamin B-6, and vitamin B-12.
Minerals are vital nutrients the body uses in small amounts to work properly. Minerals are necessary to build strong teeth and bones. Minerals control body fluids inside and outside the cell wall. Minerals aid the process of converting food into energy. Their are seven essential minerals, they are: calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and sulfur. These seven minerals can not be created by the body, they must be ingested either through food or supplementation. |
